In this day and age, we need information and we need it now.
This is especially true when it comes to kids and especially when it comes to their education.
Lucky for Haddonfield residents, information about their child’s public school education is right at their fingertips any hour of the day or night.
The Haddonfield K-12 Public School Web site offers up-to-date information to keep parents and other visitors informed about what’s going on in the academic, athletic and extracurricular spectrums of Haddonfield elementary, middle school and high school students’ education.
Right away, visitors to the Web site will find a list of newsworthy items such as upcoming events and announcements, listed on the homepage.
Viewers can read a brief synopsis or headline of each item and click on a link that will lead to more extensive information about the topic.
Links to each of the district’s elementary schools, the middle school and Haddonfield High School can be found at the top of the homepage.
The links lead to separate pages that offer information, announcements and events unique and specific to each school.
Information for student registration can be found by clicking on a link that leads to instructions, forms to fill out as well as dates and times for upcoming information sessions so that registration is easy and convenient.
District-wide calendars can be accessed through the site, offering information about important dates throughout the school year such as teacher in-services, half days, days off and high school graduation.
To see all of this for yourself, visit the Haddonfield K-12 Web site at www.haddonfield.k12.nj.us.

I read your article in the paper and thought, “gee, they must have launched a new site – let’s go check it out.” So I did.

You’re kidding, right? Haddonfield’s school district websites are some of the worst I’ve seen! Information is out-of-date, missing, hard to find and lacks basic information we all need. What kind of comparison did you make to come to the opinion that this is a good resource for residence of Haddonfield (and put it on the front page of your paper)? Did you ask anyone who has kids in the district what they thought?

As a web specialist, I’ve offered my volunteer assistance with the website to improve the information available, access to teachers and administrators, etc. without a response. I can see the argument that it’s not a high priority, but electronic dissemination and increased transparency is a vital strategy for any community-serving organization today.

For a town like Haddonfield that strives for excellence, the website is a poor display of that. It does, however, match the quality and condition of our roads in Haddonfield, so we are at least being consistent.

    Brian Niles put it perfectly.

The website is horrid. Among its many flaws is the windows centric content. Just try to read the agendas or minutes on a Mac or Linux.

The worst part is the unwillingness to recognize any problems.

brian niles-I think the school district websites do the job just fine and I am very excited that our son has the privilege to be going to school in a reputable public school system. I am sure if you make a stronger effort to get involved with administration of the websites that expert “volunteer” services would be accepted…I have also observed the boro working to keep the roads up…this is a huge job being done with limited resources….feel free to make a volunteer “contribution” to public works if you are that upset…also the haddonfield sun appears to be a “free” media resource (I do not pay a subscription fee – do you?)…so bashing folks who are nice enough to publish public interest information for folks who may not even know these websites exist really does not seem to be a productive use of time and discourages those who are sponsoring these efforts…I am very thankful that elauwit publishes a “free” haddonfield newspaper and that haddonfield boro & schools have websites…I believe these resources will improve or change as innovative people get involved and do the work…as a user (not volunteering) I am just glad someone cares enough to share it…
