The Haddonfield Japan Exchange, with support from the Camden County Cultural and Heritage Commission, will host a Japanese Family Fun Night on Thursday, Nov. 12. The Family Fun Night will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m., in Room C-8 at the Haddonfield Memorial High School, 401 Kings Highway North. Admission is free.
This family-friendly event will offer parents and others the opportunity to learn more about the Haddonfield Japanese Exchange program and the fascinating culture of Japan. The evening will include haiku, presented by the Nick Virgilio Haiku Association, interactive calligraphy demonstrations, basic Japanese language lessons presented by Dynamic Language Services, Japanese songs and games with prizes, and sushi, provided by Fuji Japanese Restaurant in Haddonfield. In addition, several Haddonfield students who have participated in the exchange program – some dressed in traditional Japanese clothing – will be available to talk about their experiences and display their photos and souvenirs.
The Haddonfield Japan Exchange (HJE) is a local organization that provides a cultural exchange program for Japanese and American high school students. In 2007, the HJE hosted students and adult chaperones from Kasukabe Girls High School in Saitama, Japan, and, last summer, the HJE students and chaperones traveled to Japan for a two-week visit.
